Local, Circuit and District Court Papers

All legal publishers (including Lexis-Nexis) only provide documents from the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals for each state.

The local, circuit or district courts, for each state do not publish their materials. Patrons should contact the local court house where the case was decided and ask the clerk for a copy of the decision.

Definitions of Circulation Status

“Billed” never gets changed to anything, until such time as the patron responds either by paying for the item, or disputing the charge, or replacing the item. Then it will get changed to “lost and paid”. Here’s a synopsis.

9 days after item is first overdue, first overdue e-mail is sent out. Status still reads “due 05-03-05”
23 days after item first overdue, second overdue e-mail is sent out. Status still reads “due 05-03-05”
37 days after item first overdue, third overdue e-mail is sent out. Status still reads “due 05-03-05”
44 days after item first overdue, item is billed. The patron is sent a paper bill in the mail. Status reads “due 05-03-05 BILLED”

Patron finally brings the item back, the item is checked in, and the status changed to CHECKED IN. They are still responsible for the overdue fee, but not replacement costs.

Patron finally brings duplicate item in for replacement. The status is changed to “lost and paid”, patron pays for the overdue costs and processing fee, but not the replacement costs. The duplicate item is sent to cataloging to be added to the record.

Patron writes a check for the total amount owed. Status is changed to “lost and paid.”

Patron comes in and says they’ve returned that book and they aren’t going to be responsible for it…we change status to “patron claims returned”. We initiate searches in the stacks.

MRLT Michigan Research Libraries Triangle

http://www.lib.wayne.edu/services/borrowing_requesting/mrlt.php

Graduate students from the three MRLT institutions (Wayne State University, University of Michigan, and Michigan State University) can receive guest borrowing privileges at any of the three universities.
· Eligibility: You must be a currently enrolled graduate student in good standing with your own library. To receive a library card from one of the two other institutions WSU graduate students need to present a OneCard, another form of picture ID, and a form that verifies your status as a currently enrolled as a graduate student. Any of the University Libraries Services Desks will be able to provide you with the completed form once we verify your status.
· Books must be returned by you directly to the institution from which they were borrowed.
· Books charged by you are subject to recall if requested by another borrower.
· The cards will be good for the current term. In order to renew another verification form must be presented.
· Failure to follow the guest borrowing policies and procedures may result in termination of privileges.
· Libraries participating in the program include: MSU, UofM and WSU.

NOTE: Privileges granted are GUEST borrowing privileges, and therefore, the patron gets books from MSU for 3 weeks, UofM Ann Arbor for 4 weeks. The reason that the trip for this student was unnecessary is that the 3 week privilege is exactly what users get who are borrowing through MeL. Therefore, encourage grad students who want to borrow from UofM to use MRLT, but if they want to borrow from MSU, and would prefer not to go out to East Lansing, just request tell them to request books through MeL.

PK Gift Books for Storage and Rosa

Once you have processed gift books and placed them in the appropriate green bin, you should call Richard Buboltz at PK to pick them up and deliver them to their new homes.

Recycle Bins

Recycle bins need to be taken down to the Purdy Loading Dock when they are full.

When you pick them up, you might think the wheeled base is missing. Many times, they put them IN the bin, so check there for the wheeled base.

Doctoral Students and Database Access

As access to our databases is regulated by an active access ID and password, their access has nothing to do with their patron status in our library database.

Double check the student's name with C&IT. Doctoral students should continue to get access for 10 months after the end of their last registered class.

Candidate Maintenance Status registration is available to PhD students only if a student has not completed the dissertation and the defense by the end of the four semesters of Candidate Status registration. For more information on continuing enrollment for PhD candidates, see http://wayne.edu/gradschool/phd/candidacy/
